There’s no denying that 2023 was a rollercoaster ride for us in the semiconductor and electronics industries. We navigated through some tough waves – the global economic slowdown and an excess inventory in our sector made it a challenging journey. In the background of these challenges, there are continuously growing concerns about climate change, wealth inequality and the global food system. Yet, even amidst these challenges, our commitment to sustainability never wavered. We understand that the health of our business is inextricably linked to the health of our planet.

In the 2023 Sustainability Report, we are excited to share the wide range of sustainability initiatives that continue to shape our path forward. This year, we revisited our sustainability targets and goals, ensuring they are meticulously designed to steer our efforts. While we achieved 17 out of 30 targets in the year under review, we are committed to continuous improvement, adding 5 more targets for 2024. Our approach is slow but steady, as we carefully consider the long-term impacts on all our stakeholders.

Among our broader commitment to sustainability, we intensified our focus on combating climate change by introducing new targets to drive energy efficiency and reduce Scope 2 carbon emissions. To achieve significant improvements in energy efficiency, we set a 2024 target of saving our total electricity consumption by 2% compared to the previous year. Furthermore, recognising the importance of scaling our efforts with business growth, we adopted a new target aimed at a 2% year-on-year reduction of Scope 2 carbon emissions per revenue on a 3-year rolling period basis. These precise targets demonstrate our commitment to measurable action and will guide our progress in the fight against climate change.

Beyond our focus on the environment, we continued to invest in our people and nurture the next generation of STEM talents with the right skillset, mindset and heartset. As part of our commitment to fostering future talents, we set a target to engage with more than 2,000 students from 100 schools across Malaysia. Furthermore, we remain committed to providing customers with innovative and advanced technology solutions of excellent quality. I invite you to explore these efforts in detail and witness our progress in the pages that follow.

Our core values of I.A.C.T.G. (Integrity, Accountability, Courage, Trust & Respect, Gratitude & Care) form the very foundation upon which ViTrox operates. They are the heart of our ESG strategy. As a business, we recognise our profound responsibility to protect our environment and ensure the advancement of society and well-being of humankind. After all, it is businesses like ours that utilise a significant portion of the community’s resources. By aligning ourselves with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (“UN SDGs”), we seek to reduce poverty (Goal 1), safeguard our planet, and ensure a prosperous future for generations to come. This is a commitment we embrace fully; it reflects our belief that ViTrox’s existence is to be a force for good, leaving the world a better place than we found it.
