ViTrox held its first-ever physical Occupational Health & Safety Week (also known as V-OHS week) on 26-28 June 2023. All events were aligned with the theme of World Day for Safety and Health at Work celebrated by the International Labour Organization (“ILO”), which advocates for “A safe and healthy working environment as a fundamental principle and right at work.” The initiative was achieved through cross-departmental collaboration among the Facility EHS and People Operation.
We designed a lineup of activities to empower all ViTroxians with valuable knowledge to enhance our OHS practices and promote a culture that prioritises well-being, preventing injuries and illnesses. There were 393 participants, including ViTroxians, interns and subcontractors. Participants provided positive feedback on the sessions that helped them to improve their current working conditions.
In the V-OHS week, ViTrox’s in-house industrial nurse provided training on basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (“CPR”), automated external defibrillator (“AED”) and basic first aid introduction, which allows our people to apply these skills in any emergency situation at the workplace or home. The session was conducted in an engaging method, in which participants had a chance to practise the skills on the spot and get assessed by the trainer.
Besides, we set up an ergonomics information booth to promote awareness of musculoskeletal health and the importance of workplace ergonomics. Through the activities, our people could learn the significance of ergonomic practices for a comfortable and healthy work environment free from musculoskeletal disorders (“MSDs”) as well as safe machinery and chemical material handling. The in-house EHS officer also conducted an Initial Ergonomics Risk Assessment for participants.
In collaboration with Penang Adventist Hospital, we invited a senior nutritionist and a general dental practitioner to share best practices and tips on how to maintain a workplace-healthy lifestyle and gum health. The sharing sessions were conducted in a hybrid mode to facilitate the participation of overseas employees.
Penang Adventist Wellness Team and Dental Team also provided services on basic health screening and dental screening that benefitted 307 employees. Employees could ask for immediate advice from healthcare professionals during the consultation session.
Complementary to the theme, we also set up a mental health booth to promote mental well-being and share with ViTroxians several strategies including stress management techniques, self-care practices and self-exploration techniques. Participants also had the opportunity to assess their stress levels through the Perceived Stress Scale (“PSS”).
