On 17 June 2023, the school building committee of SJK(C) Kuang Yu successfully held a “Laying a Foundation for Future Generations" ceremony at its new campus site in Batu Kawan, Penang. ViTrox President and Group CEO Chu Jenn Weng attended the groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the milestone of the school building development. At ViTrox Campus 2.0, Malaysian Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek witnessed the mock cheque presentation.
ViTrox is the first business entity to pledge a donation of RM1 million to the SJK(C) Kuang Yu building fund. The donation was made through its philanthropic arm, ViTrox Foundation. By this act, ViTrox is hoping to inspire the more than 180 businesses in the Batu Kawan Industrial Park to support Chinese primary education in its local community.
SJK(C) Kuang Yu, which has a history of over 88 years, was originally located in the fishing village of Kuala Muara in the north of Penang mainland. The rural area was impacted by the tsunami in 2004, leading to the relocation of many Chinese residents and student numbers decreasing in this Chinese school. In recent years, the total number of school students has been between 20 and 30; therefore, the school campus relocation was initiated.
The new campus site of SJK(C) Kuang Yu in Batu Kawan is about six (6) acres in size. The construction cost is estimated to be RM18 million. It is expected to welcome its first batch of new students in 2026. The new campus development of SJK(C) Kuang Yu plans to have four (4) learning and teaching buildings, and one of them will be named after ViTrox in the future.
