The donations includes 5,000 isolation gowns, 10,000 face masks, 200 face shields, 500 N95 masks and 500 KN95 masks. Tzu Chi Commissioner of the Buddhist Tzu Chi Merits Society Malaysia Dato’ Khoo Boo Leong said, Tzu-Chi always emphasises the importance of gathering loving-kindness from the society to contribute to good causes, as “Blessing is the joy we gain from helping others.”
He praised the hospital’s charity as its mission to help patients with financial difficulties to obtain affordable specialist medical services. The Board Director cum Medical Superintendent of Kek Lok Si Charity Hospital Dato’ Dr Teng Hock Nan expressed appreciation and gratitude to Tzu-Chi for their contribution. He said that the hospital has successfully provided high-quality medical services to patients of all ethnic groups since its opening last month. However, some patients mistakenly thought it was a free-for-charge hospital.
He explained that Kek Lok Si Charitable Hospital being a specialist’s hospital managed by Yayasan Kek Lok Si, is equipped with modern and state-of-the-art medical equipment and devices. All staff are professional and paid, the cost of medicine and operating cost is high but yet the charges are still cheaper than private hospitals. “Being a non-profitable private hospital, our patients who are not afford to pay the full medical bill can apply to the hospital welfare department. The Yayasan Kek Lok Si will provide financial assistance after the investigation and review completed and approved.”
Dato’ Dr Teng said, faced with many uncertain factors in the initial stage of its founding, he welcomes the suggestions from the public and the charitable hospital promised to continue to adjust in all aspects to meet the needs of patients. Present were The Board Chairman of the KLSCH Ven Seck Jit Heng, Board Member Dato’ Seri Steven Ooi, Board Member cum Medical Superintendent Dato’ Dr Teng Hock Nan, Hospital PIC Dr Kiew Li Chin and Matron Mdm Cheah Lew Kin.
