Key leadership from the Penang State Government, ViTrox, and UCSI University, alongside industry partners and government representatives, gather for a commemorative photo following the official plaque-signing ceremony of the ViTrox Innovation Lab. The group stands united in their commitment to bridging the gap between academic theory and industrial mastery in Malaysia.

PENANG, MALAYSIA (11 APRIL 2026)- The ViTrox Innovation Lab: A high-tech facility serving as the bridge between academic theory and industrial practice. It is the first in Southeast Asia, with an estimated total investment of around RM 60 million and close to 60 machines. Beyond supporting undergraduate internships and Final Year Projects (FYP), the lab is a shared facility for students and working professionals pursuing Industrial MSc or PhD programmes, fostering high-level research within a professional setting.

Under the mentorship of ViTrox’s top engineers and academic professors, students have the unique opportunity to work alongside industry experts to learn and co-create the next-generation solutions. The lab’s scope extends across advanced precision automation, robotics, and AI technologies, in addition to pioneering advanced optical and X-ray vision inspection systems. By providing a live manufacturing ecosystem to run real-world tests and validate research, the lab ensures that academic curiosity transforms into true industrial mastery.

Addressing the rise of Artificial Intelligence, Dato’ Chu Jenn Weng emphasised that the curriculum is designed to make graduates 'AI-irreplaceable.' By training within ViTrox’s immersive industrial ecosystem, students will master the application of AI in automation and robotics. This approach mirrors industry sentiment: while AI itself may not replace jobs, professionals who harness it will lead the workforce of tomorrow.

Dato’ Chu Jenn Weng, President and Group CEO of ViTrox, emphasised the patriotic mission behind the lab:

"We created this space to move our nation from a consumer of technology to a creator of it. By providing students with a high-tech bridge between theory and industrial mastery, we are proving that our youth don't have to leave the country to lead the global tech stage. They can start right here, pioneering next-gen inspection technologies, smart automation and shaping the future of global engineering from within our own ecosystem. We want our young generation to know they don’t have to leave the country to lead the tech stage; the front lines of innovation start right here in Malaysia."
